Perfectly Desirable
The Toyota RAV4 has never relied on image or performance to justify its place in the market. It has always been about consistency, efficiency, and doing the job properly. The 2026 Toyota RAV4 GR Sport changes that slightly. It takes the existing Toyota RAV4 PHEV platform and applies Gazoo Racing influence, potentially making this the most desirable Toyota RAV4 ever. This is still recognizably a Toyota RAV4, but with a completely new focus and character. That focus shifts the Toyota RAV4 PHEV toward sharper responses and a more engaging feel, without undoing the practicality and usability that have made the Toyota RAV4 the success it is and continues to be.
Exterior Styling
The GR Sport introduces a set of visual changes that immediately separate it from other versions of the Toyota RAV4 PHEV. It sits on unique 20-inch alloy wheels with a wider track, created by increased offset, which catch the eye and alter the stance. The front end carries a GR MATRIX grille design, while the bodywork adds front and rear spoilers shaped to manage airflow more effectively. An available Supersonic Red finish, paired with a contrasting black roof, gives it a more assertive presence. None of these elements appear elsewhere in the Toyota RAV4 range, so the GR Sport is easy to identify without needing (too many) badges to convey the message.

Performance
The powertrain is the same sensationally updated plug-in hybrid system built around a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine as the rest of the Toyota RAV4 PHEV lineup. Well, almost. Output stays at 320 horsepower and 172 lb.-ft. of torque, delivered through an all-wheel drive system that integrates electric assistance at both axles. What changes is the calibration. Throttle response is more responsive, torque delivery feels more immediate, and the CVT exhibits less delay under load. The suspension uses firmer springs and revised dampers, and the power steering has been retuned to increase responsiveness. The electric-only driving range is rated at 77 kilometres, reflecting the GR-specific aerodynamic package.
Features & Technology
The cabin keeps the layout and usability expected from the Toyota RAV4 while introducing a more focused specification. A 12.3-inch digital instrument display sits ahead of the driver, paired with a 12.9-inch central touchscreen running the latest multimedia system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with all the connected services you could ask for. The front seats combine BRIN-NAUB microsuede with SofTex trim and red stitching, and both offer eight-way power adjustment with driver memory included. Aluminum pedals and GR badging appear on the headrests and steering wheel, while heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 remain standard equipment.

Test Drive Toyota RAV4 GR Sport
in Calgary, AB
The GR Sport does not attempt to turn the Toyota RAV4 into something it isn’t. Instead, it adjusts how the vehicle responds, looks, and feels from behind the wheel. Those changes are enough to give it a clearer identity within the lineup, while still delivering the efficiency and usability expected from a plug-in hybrid compact SUV at the top of its game. To see how that translates in real driving conditions, visit Macleod Trail Toyota at 3640 Macleod Trail South, Calgary, Alberta. You can also call (403) 243-8000 for more details and to schedule a test drive appointment.
